What is bathtub refinishing?

Bathtub refinishing, also called reglazing or resurfacing, involves cleaning and repairing the bathtub surface, masking off the surrounding floor and walls, then spraying on an acrylic urethane coating on top of the existing surface. After the surface has dried, we go back and lovingly sand and polish the surface. This leaves the final surface ultra-smooth and shiny. After caulking the perimeter of the tub, the whole bathtub will look beautiful. You’ll find it easy to keep clean, and the entire process will save you thousands of dollars over the price of gutting the bathroom and replacing the bathtub.

Most porcelain bathtub refinishing jobs are completed in a day and a half of work. For larger, full-sized fiberglass tub/shower combinations, it takes three days of work. Smaller spot repairs of chips and cracks can generally be finished in a few hours. In either case, the bathtub or shower is usable 24 hours after completion.

Yes, The Bathtub Medic has been repairing cracked tubs for many years. The process involves cutting out the soft spots in the tub floor, reinforcing the area with wood supports and concrete, and then installing a new vinyl floor over the existing bathtub floor. The result is a cosmetically-pleasing look that is hard-as-a-rock, literally, and will last many years.

Yes, we can do spot repairs with an air brush. The resulting repair looks good enough that it is undetectable under casual inspection.

Sure, we can apply a textured, non-skid floor to your porcelain or fiberglass bathtub.

A bathtub liner is a brand new bathtub, made out of acrylic, that fits right on top of your existing porcelain bathtub. It is manufactured from a mold of your exact bathtub, from a certain manufacturer in the Midwest. We measure your tub, and then order a tub liner from them, and they ship it to us. Then it takes a full day of work to trim it and install it. It fits like a hand-in-glove over your existing bathtub. Since it is acrylic, without any metal, it will never rust, like porcelain does. It will never yellow, either, like fiberglass does. Acrylic bathtubs stay shiny and attractive for a lifetime, and the installation is virtually odor-free. It is a permanent solution to ugly, rusted porcelain tubs, at a fraction of the price of replacing the bathtub.

Yes, The Bathtub Medic can cut out the wall of the bathtub and install an attractive, waterproof, plastic stepover. This converts your porcelain or fiberglass bathtub into a walk-in shower stall. We can even attach a door to the stepover, if you prefer taking baths instead of showers. The manufacturer is Safeway Step, and you can see pictures of this tub-to-shower conversion here.

The Bathtub Medic can steam clean your tile, which is usually quite effective in cleaning both the tile and grout. We also have a clean & polish service for fiberglass or acrylic bathtubs, that leaves them looking shiny and attractive. This is a less expensive service than refinishing the entire bathtub.

Wayne,

I just wanted to thank you for doing such an impeccable job on fixing my bathroom tub. I was amazed. I cannot even tell the crack was ever there. It’s refreshing to meet people that take time and pride in their work.
